She lived in Waltham and my dad was at the base at Bedford. It's always had special meaning in our family!! The term "canoodle" is interesting--but most likely does not come from behavior in canoes...It appears to come from either the German verb "knudeln" (to cuddle) or a British dialect term meaning something similar. What probably happened is that people assigned the meaning of "cuddling in canoes" to the word later on because that's what it sounded like! Our ne...Thanks so much for the wonderful memories. Our neighbor in Cochituate, Dr. Roland Lombard, had his veterinary hospital right next to the park. (Dr. Lombard was the first non-Indian, non-Alaskan to win the Alaskan Iditerod (spelling?), world sled dog races. In fact, he won for several years BEFORE there was an Iditerod, and several years after. He we beloved by the people of Alaska. His son Ronnie and I would climb the chain link fence into Norumbega on many sunny afternoons.
